30+ Useful Flame and Fire Photoshop Brushes

Fire Photoshop brushes are some of the most useful resources that you can use to extend your graphic software. As a designer, you will realize that designs that contain fire and flame elements are very common nowadays. From advertisement posters, to flyers, and other photo manipulated artworks, you will notice flames or some fiery light effects, to be involved from time to time. How fire, flame, or explosion effects in Photoshop are created from scratch on the other hand, requires some level of skill especially if the output is very realistic or at least a close copy of the real thing.

How to Use Fire Photoshop Brushes

To create realistic flames using Photoshop brushes, you can follow these simple steps (for beginners). Here I am using Photoshop CS4. I am using one of the flame brushes by SugarBreezy (brush #1471 to be specific). This brush belongs to a set which is the first that you will find in the showcase below.

Steps:

1. Create a document and fill it with black color. The fire would stand out more in dark colors, so you can use pure solid black, #000.

2. Create another layer and set the color to white in the color picker. For easy recall, pick pure white, #ffffff.

3. Click the brush tool and select the flame that you want to use. Drop it on the upper layer (Layer 1). It should look like this now.

4. On the upper left side of your Photoshop, click “Image”, then go to “Adjustments” then select “Hue/Saturation.”

5. Click “Colorize” and drag the Hue, Saturation and Lightness Bars. Here, I am using the value 50, for the Hue, 100 for the Saturation and –48 for the Lightness. Click OK.

“Colorize” and drag the Hue

6. On the lowest part of your Layer area, click “fx”  and select “Outer Glow.”

7. Set the color of glow by clicking the color box.

8. On the color picker panel, drag the “Gradient Bar” to the lowest, and click the topmost red color. You can also make a shortcut by entering the hexadecimal color code #ff0000. Click OK.

9. On the Layer Style Panel, adjust Opacity as may be necessary by dragging the bar. In my case, I did not do it anymore. I just use the default 75%. Click OK.

10. By now, you should be finish, and if you get them all right, your work should look like this.
